2011 You CAN do the Rubik's Cube Tournament

Join the fun... All schools, after school, and other "Not for Profit" community youth organizations in the Greater Pike's Peak region (El Paso, Teller, Pueblo, Fremont, Douglas and Denver Counties) of Colorado serving grades K-12 can participate.

The Tournament will be held at the Colorado Springs City Auditorium on October 22, 2011 starting at 10:00AM as part of the 2011 Colorado Springs Cool Science Festival.

The Tournament will consist of teams of eight students in grades K-12 plus a teacher/coach, divided into 3 divisions as follows: Div 1 - Elementary Grades K-5, Div 2 - Middle School Grades 6-8 and Div 3 - High School Grades 9-12 grades. The teams will be competing for the fastest time to collectively solve 25 Rubik's Cubes. One team per Division per school. Divisions are determined by the oldest team member on the team (excluding the teacher/coach). Hence, if you are a K-12 school entering one team only, and the oldest team member is 12th grade and the youngest 6th grade, this team would compete in Division 3. Alternatively, a K-12 school could enter a team in each division. SPECIAL NOTE... ELEMENTARY DIVISION ONLY - will be permitted to use Solution Guide.

Here is what you need to do:

1. Register your organization by completing the form below by October 1,2011. The YCDTRC Team will acknowledge receipt and add you to the email list to receive all future information about the competition.
2. Review the Eligibility and Tournament Rules.
3. Purchase a Math Education Kit if you think you will need one at www.YouCanDoTheCube.com - use Promo Code CS11 to receive special discount pricing or use the convenient order form.
4. Work with your students and get a team together.
5. Provide team members' names 30 days prior to the event. We will contact you at a later date for this information.
6. Compete at the Preliminary Tournament on October 19 or 20, 2011. This will be scheduled in after school/early evening hours. The top 6 Finalists teams in each division advance to final Tournament to be held at the Colorado Springs City Auditorium on October 22, 2011 starting at 10:00AM.
7. Competing teams must be available for both the preliminary tournament and the finals.
